Jessica Kaminski, A Photographic Journey

Jessica will take us through her 25+ year photographic journey; studying film photography at MIAD, working in editorial photography, and building her own commercial photography studio. She will share images from different stages of her career in both commercial and fine art photography, talk about the evolution of her work, and her recent return to film photography and darkroom printing, including her recent cemetery series, REMAIN.

Jessica Kaminski is the founder and principal photographer of The Refinery Photo Studio in Milwaukee, where she specializes in portraiture, headshots, and commercial photography. She graduated from MIAD in 2001 with a BFA in Film Photography. Her career has included working as a staff photographer for M Magazine, Director of Photography and Videography for the Milwaukee Film Festival, and adjunct professor at MIAD. Jessica also lectures at local universities and the Milwaukee Public Library. Her recent exhibition, REMAIN: Photographs from Milwaukee’s Cemeteries, marks a return to her roots in black-and-white film photography and hand-printed silver gelatin prints. She also studied dry plate photography with Mark Osterman, best known for his work in wet and dry collodion variants.

Schmooze and Photo Reviews

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., we will continue to host photo reviews in small groups. Anyone who wishes to participate is encouraged to bring three to five photos to share and discuss. Tablets or laptops are best but prints work too. Join when you arrive, the earlier the better, and enjoy some food and drink at the same time!
