Looking Back/Looking Forward

Alverno Art & Cultures Gallery | Friday September 20 through Wednesday October 4, 2024

Daily gallery hours: Monday thru Saturday, 10AM to 4 PM (Open until 7 PM on Thursdays)

Opening Reception | Friday, September 20th | 5:00-7:30 PM

Artists in Conversation | Friday, September 20th | 5:30 PM

CoPA was founded in 2004 by a group of photographers who aspired to create an organization that would not only foster the creative growth of its own members but would also serve to promote photography as an art form. CoPA’s aim is to get more exposure for its members, not only through holding exhibitions, but fostering creativity and developing talent within its membership.

For this exhibition titled Looking Back/Looking Forward we are asking members to choose work from their archives that demonstrates their growth and development as artists, looking back at where they have been and looking forward to new creative ideas. It is sure to be an interesting exhibition! Please join us Friday September 20th for the opening reception, and a discussion of the benefits of belonging to artist groups.

We understand that this exhibition comes with an extremely short time frame We thought it would be best to take advantage of the exhibition offered, and show our work. We understand that members may not have time to get work printed and framed, and we will largely be relying on members that have framed work ready to go. With that, our apologies go to those who do not have such work ready.

We are looking for roughly thirty pieces. This show is not juried, and we expect everybody to get at least one piece in. Whether many people get more pieces in depends on how many people enter. We will choose the entries in the order submitted, starting with the first piece on each submission. If you need to have something printed and framed, you have 2-1/2 weeks starting now. Remember to check with our sponsor, Creative Enterprises for framing.

FRAMING GUIDELINES FOR ARTWORK EXHIBITED

All artwork submitted for exhibition shall adhere to the following framing guidelines. Failure to do so may impact participation in the exhibition.

  • Glass or plexi are preferable if artwork is covered. The product should be of sufficient thickness to prevent visible warping or waving. If glass is broken upon arrival, new glass will be fitted and the artist billed for cost of glass.

  • All framed works shall be securely fitted within their frames.

  • All framed works are to be wired for hanging.
    • NO saw-tooth hangers. NO D-rings. NO clips. NO fishing line.
  • Hanging wires are to be no closer than 2” to the top of the framed when pulled taut.
  • Wires are not to be attached to the clips that are holding the back of the frame together, but should have their own support attached to the frame and not the picture backing. Taping or gluing the wire to the frame or board is insufficient.
