“A professional photographer captures not just images, but also the essence of the subject and the atmosphere.” – unknown

The theme for this exhibition is Atmosphere. Artists explored the space around them, whether it’s visible to the eye or only discernible as a mood, a vibe or an emotion strongly expressed or engendered.

CoPA exhibitions encourage new work to keep us fresh and engaged.

Jurors

Debra Brehmer is the owner and director of the Portrait Society Gallery of Contemporary Art, in Milwaukee. She is also a curator and writer who contributes regularly to the international art publication, Hyperallergic. She was also the publisher of  Art Muscle Magazine and taught art history at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design.

Don Mendenhall integrates fine art photography into his work in human resource development, life coaching, art exhibitions, and contemplative writing. His images explore themes such as shadow and light, falling and failing, questions and answers, barriers and pathways, fear and courage—elements that resonate deeply in both photography and life. Through the practice of patient observation, waiting for the essence of the subject to reveal itself, his work takes on a meditative, introspective quality. This approach shapes the type of work and publications shown and listed in donmendenhallphotographs.com .

Mark Brautigam attended the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, and served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps for four years. He has exhibited at the Haggerty Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, and the Newspace Center for Photography. His work is in the collections of the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Museum of Wisconsin Art, the Haggerty Museum of Art, and the Racine Art Museum, as well as numerous private collections.

Atmosphere is the medium through which we see all things. – Alfred Stieglitz
