Dennis Roscoe, Imaging the Sun
For our November meeting we welcome astrophotographer Dr. Dennis Roscoe. In addition to an illustrious career in biomedical engineering, neurophysiology, and academia, Dr. Roscoe has further developed a passion for astrophotography. He currently owns and operates his own personal observatory, specializing in the imaging of deep space objects such as nebulae and galaxies; his images were published on TIME.com in May 2014.
The Sun, our closest star, is an amazing object to photograph. Dr. Roscoe will be discussing the features and physics of our Sun, as well as the unique challenges associated with imaging it. You will learn what equipment is necessary to acquire solar images and how to process these images to produce stunning photographs. He will also discuss very important safety issues.
Dr. Roscoe is currently a guest lecturer at Carroll University teaching astrophotography, and provides astronomy programs for the New Berlin Park and Recreation Department. Dr. Roscoe is also a NASA Solar System Ambassador.
Readying for a Portfolio Review
In advance of our portfolio reviews in early 2025, we will have a discussion of what it takes to get ready for one.
Photo Reviews
Beginning at 5:30, and going until the meeting starts, at 6:30, we will be holding photo reviews in small groups. Anybody who wishes to participate may bring three to five photos to share and discuss. Tablets or laptops are best, but prints work too. Join when you arrive, the earlier the better, and enjoy some food and drink at the same time!
