CoPA and MARN Art + Culture Hub and Portrait Society Gallery of Contemporary Art present
Tuesday, October 12 at MARN Art + Culture Hub
6:15P Announcements / 6:30 Helene Fischman
Meeting is open to CoPA, MARN and Portrait Society members and students.
Join CoPA, MARN and the Portrait Society Gallery of Contemporary Art in welcoming CoPA member Lois Bielefeld. Although photography has been a mainstay in Bielefeld’s work, sound, video, performance and installation have regularly emerged as integral mediums. Lois will share her trajectory as maker how she approaches each work/series, and her latest series To commit to memory (on view at Portrait Society Gallery Sept 17-Nov 13).
Come early to share work with fellow members. Enjoy a coffee, cocktail, wine, craft beer or soft drink and a menu that features local and Wisconsin producers.
Immediately following Lois’s presentation, the Portrait Society Gallery of Contemporary Art (literally two blocks away from MARN – see map below) will graciously host an artist reception with refreshments to compliment a talk and tour of Lois’s exhibition.
Mom’s Birthday, Lois Bielefeld, © 2021
It was wonderful that Lois could share my 73rd birthday with me and Eric. I just wish that Dan and Lydia could have been here. Lois made the table beautiful for celebrating. Even with partial sight, I do see and appreciate beauty, design, and color.
On mom’s 73rd birthday, she requested Cinnabons with extra frosting. I procured them at Mayfair Mall. On my birthday, Mom always calls me, and as I answer the phone she immediately launches into singing “Happy Birthday” to me. If I can’t answer, she sings it for my voice mail. I love that she does this. 2020
Lois Bielefeld is a queer series-based artist working in photography, audio, video, and installation. Her work continually asks the question of what links routine and ritual to the formation of identity and personhood and the development of meaning-making.
Meeting is open to CoPA and MARN members, students and guests.
