American photographer and filmmaker Ralph Steiner (1899 – 1986) was active in New York in the 1920s and 30s. He worked as a fine art photographer and experimental filmmaker, exhibiting his work in museums and galleries.  He also accepted commercial photography assignments and produced promotional films for the government. This exhibition of work from the Haggerty Museum of Art’s collection presents a selection of Steiner’s vintage photographic prints alongside his well-known social documentary The City, which debuted at the 1939 World’s Fair “City of Tomorrow” exhibition.
