Abandoned: Urban vs. Rural
July 22 – September 8, 2016
722 E Burleigh St, Milwaukee, WI 53212
Abandonment is a human creation. It comes from change, and often, innovation. The abandoned space is often dilapidated, old, vacant. Some are encapsulated in surroundings that lived on, thrived and occupied. Some are remote and forgotten. They can be romantic and beautiful – a glimpse into the past. The abandoned exists in both rural and urban environments. It speaks to the historic fabric of society and a testament in social development.
The dueling theme of Abandoned: Urban vs. Rural explores the beauty, dissonant, harmony and derelict in our surroundings.
The contrast of ruins in rural landscape and urban decay may present a common ground of the two – history of humans and the nature of inevitable change. The beauty of this theme has spawned a new genre and generation of ‘urbex’ (urban exploration) and ‘rurex’ (rural exploration) photographers. We welcome you to pursue the theme with an open mind and creative abandonment.
Qualification: Must be a current CoPA Member (need a membership? click here)
