What is a Photoblog?A photoblog is a website whose primary content is photographs displayed in a log format. Whereas a typical blog uses text as its primary form of communication, in a photoblog the emphasis is photographs. Some blogs also contain pictures; some photoblogs also contain text. When is a blog a photoblog? When the emphasis is the photography and the images are not just used to illustrate the text. Photoblogs usually have one author, but some have two or many more. Entries are usually posted to the photoblog by the author on a regular basis. The resulting posts are usually time stamped and listed in chronological order with the most recent photo(s) shown first and on the main page of the photoblog. Older entries are accessed via links that allow a visitor to navigate forward and back, chronologically through a photoblog's images. Typically, some kind archive is available, often divided by month or category. Most photoblogs also allow visitors to leave comments that are associated with a particular entry. These comments allow a photoblog to establish a community of visitors. Comments usually link back to the commenter's site. This further permits the creation of a loose community with authors and visitors able to access, share and communicate through each others sites. Susceptible to ImagesMilwaukee Arts Related Online Magazine From the site We are all susceptible, aren't we? We live amid images more than reality. That's our postmodern problem. But we look to the images to understand our reality and this interface is all we poor humans really have by way of communication. Words tend to consistently fail. Images work better. For those of us who love art, who seem to find endless interest, stimulation and meaning from the visual world, we offer this website. We hope to actively cover Milwaukee's art scene with weekly reviews, offer essays and monthly columns dealing with concepts and ideas in the visual arts, provide a useful gallery calendar, and connect an audience that shares this mutual interest. We will try to connect our momentary culture with historical precedents and traditions. We think it might be useful and important to attempt to figure out how we've gotten into this current mess. And history is always amusing anyway. |

Lenswork PodcastRandom thoughts and observations on photography Brooks Jensen, the editor of LensWork magazine, puts out a podcast, usually several times a week. If you are familiar with the magazine then you know what the LensWork philosophy and mission is - the discussion of the creative aspects of photography, and this carries through to the podcast. The LensWork podcasts are fairly short, focused and to the point. They are simple but thought provoking. In addition, Brooks has a great "announcer's" voice which is a pleasure to listen to. |
