The Quadracci Pavilion, affectionately called the "Calatrava," is probably the most photographed building in the city, and every photographer likely has at least one image of it in their portfolio. The idea behind this show is to compare how different artists/photographers "see" the building. It is an iconic structure, but every photographer has a unique "eye," and this promises to be a fascinating look into all the different kinds of ways artists are able to portray the same, highly recognizable subject.

My subject is the complex – often paradoxical – relationships I see between nature and architecture. My approach, using the part to represent the whole, symbolizes the fragmentation we experience in our everyday environment." ~ Eddee Daniel

The Concordia Center for Environmental Stewardship announces its 1st Annual Environmental Art Show: "Shorelines". The show is a tax deductible benefit for the CCES and its Children's Outreach Programs. The Children's Outreach Programs help provide environmental education to students in grades K-12.

The Concordia Center for Environmental Stewardship looks into the exploration of Shorelines. Beyond the apparent aesthetic beauty of the Shoreline itself, these amazing environmental phenomena teach of the dichotomy of two opposing entities. This natural threshold not only elaborates in separation but also the unity it produces. Through this union the two bodies create something greater than each individual. Focusing on the fringe, boundaries, and verge; understanding can be gleaned on concepts of power, tranquility, sharing, and dissonance. Two entities separated by differences but united by one...Shoreline.

The artist statement has a very important role to play in the presentation of art — be it an exhibition, a book, a digital publication, a magazine publication, or a portfolio. As you can imagine, we’ve reviewed thousands of artist statements over the years. With that in mind, let me share a few ideas that might help. – Brooks Jensen

By Brooks Jensen, editor of LensWork Magazine (www.lenswork.com)

The first thing I ever wrote was with a crayon — Crayola Burnt Sienna, as I recall. [I see you stifling a yawn.] Then, in first grade, I started using a #2 yellow pencil [You interested yet?] and now I use computers and Microsoft Word version... [“AAAARRRGH!” you say, as you throw LensWork across the room in frustration.] But, wait, I have a point. This is precisely the reaction of most readers when presented with an Artist Statement that begins with, “My first camera was a . . .” Who cares?

Let’s be honest — don’t we all know that artist statements are rarely read? Ever stop to ask yourself why? Could it be that they are boring, immaterial, poorly written, or simply useless? You can fool me once, but after a few hundred piffly artist statements, can you blame me if I stop reading them?

William Zuback is now represented by Frank Juarez Gallery in Sheboygan WI. Zuback’s work can be found in private collections through out the country. He has participated in many Juried group exhibitions and solo shows in Southeastern Wisconsin. In October 2013 William Zuback will present a solo exhibition at Frank Juarez Gallery.

When William Zuback creates his photographs he is reminded that everyone comes to life experiences differently. He would like the viewer of his work to come away feeling visually satisfied but intellectually curious. Zuback feels most successful when he has connected with the viewer on an emotional level but left room for interpretation.

“My fine art work is driven by the narrative but enhanced with the technical story telling abilities of the photographic process. A glint of highlight, how I bring out the texture on a certain object or how recropping the image in the viewfinder, can turn an average image into an extraordinary one. These are the little victories that fuel my desire as a visual story teller. I find each of my photographic themes a journey of discovery and learning. I enjoy new paths that challenge my comfort zone. Whether I’m pushing those boundaries with the subject matter or the material or technique that I am using, it is always more about the journey and not the final destination”, says Zuback.
