Call for entries for "Photography: A Juried Exhibition of Visual Images" exhibition at Anderson Arts Center, June 23 - August 4.  The juror is Jon W. Balke. Awards will be presented at the opening reception on June 23rd. The 10th annual Wisconsin Visual Art Lifetime Achievement Awards (WVALAA) ceremony will be held at the Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) at 205 Veterans Avenue in West Bend on Sunday, May 19 at 1:30 pm. Founded in 2004 as a collaboration between MOWA, Wisconsin Painters and Sculptors/Artists in All Media (now Wisconsin Visual Artists) and the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters, the WVALAA is essentially the in-state “Hall of Fame” for individuals, groups and organizations who have supported the visual arts with distinction.

CoPA member Michael Nowotny has been accepted to ART Milwaukee's "ART Jamboree - ART & Buy Local Fair", to be held May 18 from 2 to 10 p.m. at the Shops of Grand Avenue in downtown Milwaukee. Nowotny's photograph "Psycho Harley", not previously released, will be on exhibit in addition to several other pieces of his art.

Call for entries for the summer "Photography" exhibition at Gallery 224, July 12 - Sept 1.  Approximately 10 artists will be selected to exhibit a series of their photographs investigating the theme of their choice.  Please submit 6-10 images and an artist statement addressing the series to gallery224@gmail.com.  The submission deadline is June 2.  For more information, visit the website at gallery224.org.

The image "Two Trees in Ice Fog" by CoPA member Bruce Ambuel has been selected by jury for the "Wild" international photography competition and print sale sponsored by the British-based non-profit organization PhotoVoice. Each photograph in the Wild gallery is available to purchase in a limited edition print run for £50.00, with all money raised going to PhotoVoice. 

The Coalition of Photographic Arts (CoPA) is kicking-off its spring member show on Gallery Night, April 19. The exhibition, on the second floor of 600 East Mason Street, features the best photographs submitted for acceptance to the CoPA Exhibition Committee. Over 300 images will be displayed in “gallery style". The theme for exhibition this year is open, so the viewing audience is in for a visual treat.

The work of CoPA member Ellen Reynolds is on exhibit at Tulip Restaurant in Milwaukee's historic Third Ward.

My subject is the complex – often paradoxical – relationships I see between nature and architecture. Milwaukee, TALK welcomes Richard Cahan, co-author of Vivian Maier: Out of the Shadows, and art collector Jeffrey Goldstein for the first in a series of visiting artist lectures.  Vivian Maier, known as "the nanny photographer," became a sensation after her work was put online soon after her death in 2009.  Since then, Maier's work has been shown throughout Europe and in major cities across the United States. Her story has been featured in major media outlets including The New York Times Lens Blog.

cinephile: This project for CoPA member Jessica Z. Schafer's Featured Member Exhibition at WPCA began taking shape during an Art Marathon in the Summer of 2012. During the 30 days of art launched by the Cream City Illustrators of Milwaukee, Schafer started to further explore a format of photography diptychs and triptychs.  The resulting series of still images is reminiscent of the frames of a black & white filmstrip.

Now in its third year, get bEHIND the aRTS is a self-guided tour of artists’ studios located throughout Racine and Kenosha. On Saturday, April 6, from 11 am to 5 pm, go behind-the-scenes with visual and performing artists to get a glimpse of their innovative and productive work spaces. CoPA member Jessica Z. Schafer will be one of the guest artists in Maureen Fritchen's Studio in the 16th Street Studios located at 1405 16th Street, Racine.

The new exhibit, The Urban Experience, in the Community Room Art Gallery at Unitarian Universalist Church West is guaranteed to open your eyes to art that exists all around us in the city.

CoPA member Paul Matzner will be teaching a "Street Photography" class on Saturday, June 1 from 9:30 - 4:30 at The Center for Photography at Madison (CPM). Detailed information and official registration will be available at the end of March on CPM's website: http://www.cpmad.org/
Students will gain insight into what street photography entails, and improve their ability to make photographs that capture the essence of people and location.

The work of CoPA member Maria I. Nunez Del Prado will be featured in RAW:Milwaukee's artistic showcase "Discovery", at The Rave Bar in Milwaukee.
RAW:natural born artists is an independent arts organization that hand-selects and spotlights independent creatives in visual art, film, fashion, music, hair & makeup artistry, photography, models and performing art.

CoPA is happy to announce that they have been invited to display in the lobby of the Art Institute of Wisconsin, located at 320 E. Buffalo St., Milwaukee. Opening Reception on Gallery Night, January 18, from 6-8 pm.

The Concordia Center for Environmental Stewardship announces its 1st Annual Environmental Art Show: "Shorelines". The show is a tax deductible benefit for the CCES and its Children's Outreach Programs. The Children's Outreach Programs help provide environmental education to students in grades K-12.

Juror Grahm Reid announced the winners and Honorable Mention photographers for CoPA’s 6th Annual Midwest Juried Photo Exhibition.  The annual juried competition is an opportunity for emerging and established artists from Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota to exhibit their contemporary photography.

The Milwaukee Art Museum is pleased to announce the appointment of Lisa J. Sutcliffe as the new Curator of Photography. Sutcliffe will join the Museum in January 2013 from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, where she has served as assistant curator in the Department of Photography since 2007.

The artist statement has a very important role to play in the presentation of art — be it an exhibition, a book, a digital publication, a magazine publication, or a portfolio. As you can imagine, we’ve reviewed thousands of artist statements over the years. With that in mind, let me share a few ideas that might help. – Brooks Jensen

William Zuback is now represented by Frank Juarez Gallery in Sheboygan WI. Zuback’s work can be found in private collections through out the country. He has participated in many Juried group exhibitions and solo shows in Southeastern Wisconsin. In October 2013 William Zuback will present a solo exhibition at Frank Juarez Gallery.

The work of CoPA members Byron Becker, Carlyle Chan, Geri Laehn and George Sanquist is on exhibit in The Underwood Society Fine Art Photographers 6th Annual Holiday Show at One Way Café & Gallery in the Village of Wauwatosa.

CoPA members Perry Heideman, Steven Yeo and Cardi Toellner participating in a mind-bending art exhibit from six local artists and photographers entitled Surrealism and Beyond. The exhibit incorporates surreal, illusory and flow of consciousness imagery that will delight, amuse and engross audiences of all ages.  At Unitarian Universalist Church West, artists' reception Thursday, December 13th, 7:00 – 8:30 pm.

The Coalition of Photographic Arts and the Walker’s Point Center for the Arts are pleased to present CoPA’s 6th Annual Midwest Juried Photo Exhibition, an annual opportunity for emerging and established artists from Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota to exhibit their contemporary photography.  This Year’s jurors are Annemarie Sawkins (former Associate Curator, Haggerty Museum of Art at Marquette University) and Graeme Reid (Assistant Director, Museum of Wisconsin Art).
